It wasn't easy for Bridget Sandoval to grow up in an upmarket Cheshire town filled with such elitism and snobbery, especially when born to a working class single mother.
Her mother, Marianne worked as a maid for one of Silvermere's elite families: The Willenberg's. Her beauty caught the attention of Lord Francis Willenberg, with whom she embarked on a secret relationship. Sadly, by the time she realised she was just being used for sex, and that her love for him would never be reciprocated - she was fired while being pregnant with his child. In order to avoid a scandal, Lord Francis bought Marianne's silence and told her to leave town. Marianne refused to leave, moved into a small home and gave birth to Bridget months later, hoping that sooner or later, her father would want to be involved in her life. Her hopes were in vain, but Bridget grew up to be a sweet, good natured girl, despite the overwhelming hostility she faced in school. |
As her mother spiralled out of control, turning to drink and bringing home a new guy every weekend. Bridget would spend alot of time on her own, walking in nature, painting, playing music and retreating into her own little world. After a while, Bridget befriended a couple - Cliff and Carla - who run a coffee house/book shop in town, where the 14yo Bridget took refuge, helping out and playing piano for the customers.
Soon after a suicide attempt by her mother, Bridget's mental health suffered massively. Cliff and Carla checked Bridget into a mental health treatment facility for teenagers. There she befriended a boy called Bobby, their shared experiences strengthening their bond - which led to her first kiss, and shortly after her first sex. After a few weeks of wild encounters with Bobby, one of the nurses caught them having sex - which resulted in Bobby being sent away to another facility. Shortly after, Bridget left a new girl, resolved to never succumb to depression ever again.
With her maternal grandmother being a gypsy, Bridget was tuned into the world of esoteric mysticism, and discovered a gift for reading peoples energies. It's for this reason, that Bridget sensed something dark and evil was happening at her school.
The children were being subjected to a mind control program which turned them into slaves of an evil agenda being carried out by the towns elites. Due to her unique mind, she was able to resist the programming - which in turn made her more of an outcast than she already was, and the teachers were now gunning for her.
One day, Bridget ended up on weekend detention. There, she was reunited with her childhood friend, Jake Freeman, and met another girl called Nadia Ali as well as her younger brother Kazeem. Bridget discovered that they too are impervious to the school's mind control program. Forming an instant bond, they came together as a group - The Ruffians - and resolved to look out for each other, and get to the bottom of the sinister goings on in their town.
Now 18, Bridget's life is changed forever when Grace Marple comes to town, The Ruffians are convinced she can't be trusted and that she'll become "one of them". But Bridget has a good feeling about the new girl.
